2025 Alpine A110 RS spotted: The Alpine A110 RS is spotted.

Alpine was spotted testing a new version of its mid-engine sports car, the A110, which is even more extreme than the hardcore A110 R launched in 2022.

The new version may look similar to the A110 R on the sidelines, but a closer look reveals additional features aimed at improving times on the track.

These include a front mask flick, a small stabilizing fin on the engine cover, a larger rear wing with manual adjustment, the addition of a ducktail spoiler, and in the latest prototype, a new baffle or air curtain on the side of the rear mask.

The wheels are also a new design (the A110 R has 18-inch carbon fiber wheels with aero discs) and the brakes appear to be of a different design than the A110 R.

Whether a more powerful version of the A110's 1.8-liter turbo four is being tested is not clear. Engine output currently peaks at 296 hp in both the A110 R and the lesser A110 S. The only transmission offered in the A110 range is a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, which should not change in future A110 variants. [However, the RS, or Trophy, name used by Alpine's parent company, Renault, for its high-performance models, may be the path Alpine takes.

Alpine has not announced plans for a new variant of the A110, but the hardcore special may be used to bid farewell to the internal combustion engine, as the company plans to transition to a fully electric car brand soon. Alpine F1 driver Esteban Ocon has also been spotted driving the prototype.

Alpine has already announced a lineup of seven EVs to be launched this decade. The first is the recently unveiled A290 hot hatch based on the Renault 5 E-Tech; the A290 is scheduled to debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June, and a new A110 model may also be on the way.

The redesigned A110 will also form part of the future EV lineup. Currently, it is scheduled for around 2026.

Some electric Alpines will reach the United States. The French performance brand said last year that it plans to begin sales in the U.S. in 2027. A pair of crossovers in the same segment as Porsche's Macan and Cayenne are expected to arrive first.
