2025 Nissan Frontier witnesses some updates

Nissan is testing a lightly camouflaged Frontier prototype, suggesting that some updates are being developed for the midsize pickup truck.

The Frontier will last be redesigned in 2022, and updates could be introduced as early as the 2025 model year.

The two prototypes, one a lower-spec grade and the other a rugged Pro-4X, appear to feature a new grille design and new wheel patterns. The heavy camouflage gear on the front mask suggests a new design there as well.

According to our photographer, the dashboard is also camouflaged on both tracks, suggesting some changes inside, including a potentially larger screen. The Frontier currently combines analog gauges with a smaller 7.0-inch screen. The infotainment screen is also smaller, at 8.0 inches as standard, with a 9.0-inch version also available.

The Frontier's standard 3.8-liter V-6 engine has a maximum output of 310 hp and is paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission. Towing capacity is 6,640 lbs.

The updates should help Frontier stay fresh in the face of new competition, including the redesigned 2024 Ford Ranger and 2024 Toyota Tacoma.

Nissan is also known to be working on a 1-ton pickup truck for North America. It will be built in Mexico and co-developed with Mitsubishi, though the timing is unknown. Both Nissan and Mitsubishi have stated that they are also working on an electric pickup truck, although details are unknown.
