2025 Lamborghini Urus SE Plug-in Hybrid with 789 hp revealed

Lamborghini will unveil its latest Urus SUV with a plug-in hybrid powertrain at the 2024 Beijing Motor Show this week.

Revealed Wednesday ahead of its official debut tomorrow in the Chinese capital, the 2025 Urus SE will combine the current Urus' twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 with an electric motor to deliver a total system output of 789 hp.

Orders will be accepted after its debut, with first deliveries scheduled for early next year. Pricing will start at $258,000 in the U.S., before undisclosed destination fees.

The electric motor delivers 189 hp on its own and can travel a dedicated range of over 30 miles thanks to a large 25.9 kwh battery mounted in the rear. This motor is integrated with an 8-speed automatic transmission, which also sends power to the standard all-wheel drive system. Most of the time, however, the motor assists the engine by providing torque fill. It also recovers energy during braking.

Performance-wise, the SE is the most powerful version of the Urus, with 0-62 mph acceleration in 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 194 mph.

Also new to the Urus SE is a centrally located torque vectoring system with an electro-hydraulic multi-plate clutch. This allows for a more precise division of drive torque between the front and rear axles, according to Lamborghini. It also works in conjunction with a new electronically controlled limited-slip differential on the rear axle to further aid handling. According to Lamborghini, this helps to improve control during oversteer.

Handling is further tuned by a new calibration of the air springs, and Pirelli has developed a custom-made P Zero Elect tire for the SUV. Elect is Pirelli's designation for tires developed for electrified vehicles, with compounds designed to accommodate the vehicle's high-torque characteristics and increased weight. Elect is Pirelli's designation for tires developed for electrified vehicles, meaning that they have compounds designed to accommodate the vehicle's high torque characteristics and increased weight. They also have reduced rolling resistance to optimize range.

The exterior design of the Urus SE features subtle changes that improve the overall aerodynamic efficiency while enhancing its appearance. For example, the new clamshell hood has fewer cut lines to catch the air. The headlights feature the latest matrix LED technology and new facia at both ends. A new spoiler and diffuser at the rear and various vents on the upper and lower body contribute to improved downforce and cooling performance.

Last year, Lamborghini introduced its last car powered solely by an internal combustion engine in the form of the Huracan Stellato. Starting with plug-in hybrids, the company will eventually move to electric vehicles.

The first plug-in hybrid was the Revuelt, a supercar that replaced the 1,000 hp Aventador with a V-12 and three electric motors. Later this year, Lamborghini will also unveil a plug-in hybrid to replace the Huracan. Lamborghini's first EV, teased in last year's Lanzador concept, is expected to arrive in 2028.
