2027 Porsche 911GT2RS was spied in the early stages of testing

Porsche has started working on its ultimate 911, a new generation of GT2RS.

The latest spy shot shows the test mule being used to develop the GT2RS mechanical package. The final bodywork should appear from 6 months to 1 year from now.

Video footage from the Car Spy Media features the telltale whistle of a turbocharged engine, which you get with the GT3RS's naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-6 GT2RS usually runs the same engine as the Turbo S, but even more power and drive is sent only to the rear wheels and of course it is not. While on the car has won the nickname of the widow Maker.

Another clue to looking at the GT2RS prototype is the "Wolfman" script in the rear window.1 At Porsche, engineers continue the tradition of using the "top Gun" callsign to nickname prototypes of cars in the GT range.

The GT2RS will arrive towards the end of the 911 lifecycle. The current 992 generation 911 arrived in the 2020 model and was given a mid-cycle refresh in 2025. We expect the GT2RS to arrive at the 2027 model in the U.S., which means it's likely to be on the market in 2026.

The last GT2RS had 3.8 hp on tap from the 6-liter flat with twin turbocharged 700. It is not clear what Porsche plans for the new generation, but rumors point out that it has dialed up to nearly 1,000 horsepower. If accurate, expect some electrification to be part of the mix.

The updated 2025 911 introduced a hybrid powertrain to the gts grade. The setup consists of a compact electric motor integrated with a transmission that is used only to assist the engine, in this case the turbo is also assisted by an electric compressor 3.6 liters flat 6 with a turbocharged. A similar setup could be adopted for the GT2RS, but perhaps a twin-turbo engine and a more powerful electric motor of the transmission

There are also rumors that Porsche may develop a cooling system that will replace traditional engine fans for the air produced by the electric turbo. 15]

Combined with Porsche's latest aerodynamic know-how, the new GT2RS could stave off the current lap record for production cars at the Nürburgring, the time set in 2022 by the Mercedes-Benz AMG One Hypercar at 6:30.705. The last GT2RS was equipped with a performance package developed by Manthey-Racing and a 700 hp rating, and by 2021 it had already managed a time of 6:38.835.

Stay tuned for updates as development continues.
