2025 Audi RS Q8 spied in the "ring"

Audi's Q8 received a 2024 mid-cycle update, but what was missing in the lineup was the fire-breathing RS Q8 variant.

The development of the updated RS Q8 turns out to be still happening because the disguised prototype has just been tested at the Nürburgring, and given the thin camouflage gear it wore, its debut is likely to be close. It is likely to arrive later this year as a 2025 model for the U.S. market.

The updated Q8 received only minimal adjustments to the exterior design and some new trim options for the cabin. The previous E-Tron electric midsize SUV was also rebranded as the Q8E-Tron to the 2024 model with its own update.

For RS Q8, the prototype also suggests that only minimal changes are planned, at least for exterior design. There is a new grille design, a revised rear fascia, and tweaks to the light signature on both ends.

It's not clear what is planned for mechanicals, but yellow warning stickers on previous prototypes indicate that some form of electrification is being added. The photo does not show a charging port, but there are rumors that a plug-in hybrid powertrain may be added.

The 2023RS Q8 features a 591-horsepower twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8. The same V-8 is paired with plug-in hybrid systems for cars of other Volkswagen Group brands, including the relevant Porsche Cayenne. With the Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid added in 2024, the V-8 plug-in hybrid setup is suitable for 729 hp.

The plug-in hybrid powertrain has also just been dropped by the 2025 Lamborghiniurus, which delivers 789 horsepower. Like the Porsche Cayenne, the Urs are close relatives of the Q8. This means that the plug-in hybrid powertrain could also power the updated RS Q8.
