2025 Porsche 911 enters the hybrid era

The current 992 generation Porsche 911 has received a mid-cycle refresh of the 2025 model, and a hybrid powertrain is available for the first time in the update. Revealed on Tuesday ahead of this fall's market launch

, the updated 2025 911 includes the Carrera, Carrera GTS and Targa 4GTS grades, with the hybrid powertrain only featured in the GTS grade so far.

The current Turbo, Turbo S and GT3RS grades are planned to be updated with Turbo and Turbo S, but the grade of the 2025 model will continue unchanged, the latter should also come with hybrid Powertra updated GT3, and perhaps the updated Carrera S and Carrera T should also come at some point.

The new hybrid powertrain, called the T-Hybrid, marks the biggest change since the 911 was switched from air-cooled to water-cooled with the advent of the 996 generation in the 1990s. The powertrain consists of a compact, lightweight electric motor integrated with the 911's standard 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Electric motors, independently generate 54 hp and are used to support internal combustion engines, in this case, the newly developed turbocharged 3.6 liter flat-6 turbocharger also features an electric motor designed to speed up the compressor wheels at low rpm to ensure boost pressure develops quickly. The turbocharger-integrated motor recovers energy from the exhaust, just like the transmission-integrated electric motor, which can recover energy when braking. All the recovered energy is stored in a small battery with a capacity of only 1.9 kwh. Using a small battery means that the additional weight of the hybrid system is only 103 pounds.

Similar to the hybrid system Porsche uses in motorsport, the main function of the 911 hybrid system, which the engineers used as inspiration, is to improve performance rather than reduce fuel consumption. The combined peak output of the Carrera GTS is 532 hp, up 59 hp from the current version, and Porsche cites a 0.3-0-60mph time of 2.9 seconds faster than the current version. The top speed is 194mph.

The updated Carrera sticks to the current Carrera's twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre flat 6, but there are some tweaks to boost power. These include the addition of a turbocharger from the current Carrera GTS and an intercooler from the current turbo. The peak power is 388 hp, up 9 hp compared to the current Carrera.

Other changes to 2025 911 include a new interior for headlamps, including matrix LED technology, and now integrate daytime running lights (which were previously separate units). There's also a new design for the taillights, and the revised fascia that Porsche says is more aerodynamic. New wheel patterns are also offered, ranging from 19 to 21 inches.

For the first time, a full digital dash is used in the interior. In the current range, the centrally located tachometer is still an analog unit. The engine start button first appeared on the 911 (the left side of the steering wheel in Porsche Custom) and the steering wheel has also been updated with more features, including a standard drive mode selector.

Porsche's 2025 911 lineup is now available to order. The Carrera starts at the rear122,095 and is only available with rear-wheel drive. This represents a price increase of aboutま6,000 from the previous year.

Upgrading to the Carrera GTS, a new hybrid grade, will cost at leastド166,895. The Gts can be used with rear-wheel or all-wheel drive, but the Targa body style only comes with all-wheel drive.

As mentioned above, the Turbo, Turbo S, and GT3RS remain unchanged in the 2025 model. They are sold from 1 199,195, 2 232,395, and 2 243,295, respectively. All prices include the price of destination1,995 destinations.
