2025 BMW M5 teaser reveals illuminated grille

BMW confirmed on social media Wednesday that the new M5 will make its debut soon.

Along with this confirmation, BMW posted a teaser photo. The debut is expected later this month.

Both sedan and wagon body styles are planned, but it is not clear if both body styles will be revealed simultaneously. What is clear is that both body styles will be offered in the US, unlike the sedan-only M3.

Prototypes of the M5 sedan and M5 touring wagon have been spotted, and BMW has confirmed that testing is nearing completion. This means that sales will likely begin this year, and the new M5 should appear in the U.S. as a 2025 model year

The new M5 is based on the redesigned 5 Series introduced for the 2024 model year, and is the only one of the 5 Series family with a V8 engine It is expected to be the only variant of the 5 Series family to be powered by a V8 engine. However, the V-8 engine is not the only power source. It is expected to be combined with an electric motor integrated with a transmission (in this case, an 8-speed automatic).

The same setup produces 644 hp in the BMW XM and 738 hp in the more hardcore XM Label Red. The current M5 has a maximum output of 627 hp in the CS version. A plug-in hybrid configuration should allow for an electric range there as well.

The hybrid technology is expected to add significant weight, but should still improve performance over the current M5: the CS version of the car can reach 60 mph from a standstill in 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 190 mph.
