2025 BMW M2 rivals the power of the M3

BMW has updated the M2 along with the rest of the 2 Series for the 2025 model year.

While the updates to the 2 Series are relatively mild, the M2 has gained 20 hp in power output, bringing the twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6 engine's total output to 473 hp.

This is the same level of engine power delivered by the rear-wheel-drive-only base M3, which can also be upgraded to the M3 Competition version for all-wheel drive, in which case the latest 2025 model has 523 hp.

In the M2, the engine supplies drive power to the rear wheels only via a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic, and drive torque can be distributed to either side by the standard active M differential. BMW has also tweaked the gas pedal mapping to improve response regardless of drive mode. [The automatic accelerates from 0-60 mph in 3.9 seconds, 0.2 seconds faster than the manual. Top speeds for both are 155 mph standard and 177 mph with the M Driver's Package selected.

Aside from powertrain tweaks, the 2025 M2 also features an expanded color palette, new wheel finishes, a new flat-bottom steering wheel, and new trim materials; M carbon bucket seats can now be added as a separate option, and the M Driver's Package now includes the M Carbon Bucket Seats.

Like all 2025 2 Series models, the M2 comes with a digital dash consisting of a 12.3-inch digital meter cluster and a 14.9-inch infotainment screen. Drivers operate these screens via BMW's iDrive interface, the latest version of which leaves a customizable section on the infotainment screen's home display. This allows owners to add their favorite features and have them readily available at any time. Frequently used functions such as climate control and heated seats are also displayed here at all times.

Standard features include three-zone automatic climate control, ambient lighting, a Harman Kardon audio system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and navigation. Augmented reality navigation is also available.

The 2025 M2 goes on sale in August. The base model is priced at $66,075 including a $1,175 destination charge. This is a $1,880 price increase from the previous year's price. A more hardcore M2 CS model is also believed to be in the works, although it has not yet been confirmed.

Production of the M2 takes place at BMW's plant in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. This plant also produces the regular 2 Series coupe.
