Toyota Land Cruiser Specialist TLC 4x4 of North Carolina has unveiled a new restomod that blends different generations of Land Cruisers into a single off-roader.

The 1989 FJ142 Land Cruiser retains the styling of the 1980s Land Cruiser, using the body of the FJ62 model sold during that decade. However, its body is on the frame of the 1990s and later FZJ80 Land Cruiser, with more modern updates.

Further exterior changes include LED headlights, a new front bumper, rear bumper with tire carrier, front fenders and rear quarter vents, Warn winch, and automatic side steps. fj142 has 33-inch Kenda Klever R/T tires.

It is also a true restomod with modern powertrain and chassis components. The General Motors LS3 V8 crate motor breathes with a new stainless steel exhaust system, and the suspension system has been upgraded with Fox shocks, new springs and sway bars.

The interior features leather trim on the steering wheel, grab handles, and center console. Sound insulation was also added, as well as new gauges, interior lighting, and an updated head unit with a rear view camera and Apple CarPlay connectivity.

Builds of such TLC 4x4s start at $250,000. Prices will vary depending on the individual vehicle's specifications, but the TLC will be similar in price to Icon, the same Land Cruiser restomod company. While it lacks the vintage aesthetic of these vehicles, the new 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser offers similar capabilities, and its price of $57,445, including destination, seems like a bargain in comparison.
