The current Mercedes-AMG GT3 racing car bids farewell with a special edition

Mercedes-Benz AMG used the 2024 Monterey Car Week currently underway in California to bid farewell to its highly successful GT3 race car based on the former AMG GT sports car.

The AMG GT3 Edition 130Y Motorsports was unveiled Friday in Monterey and confirmed by AMG to be the last naturally aspirated GT3 racing car. [The car also marks the 130th anniversary of Mercedes-Benz's participation in motorsports, a legacy that began in 1894 when several cars, including the winning car, entered the Paris-Rouen race using engines supplied by Daimler AG, which later became Mercedes-Benz

AMG was founded in 1894.

Only 13 AMG GT3 Edition 130Y Motorsports were built. It is not homologated to a specific race series, but is designed simply as a circuit toy. It also means that it may be equipped with features not normally allowed in a sanctioned race series.

These features include an unrestricted version of AMG's 6.3-liter V-8 engine, which in this application delivers 671 hp. The car also features a unique aerodynamics package that provides 15% more downforce than the standard AMG GT3. This package includes a new front splitter, new front fender vents, side skirts, underbody, and a revised rear diffuser. The rear wing has also been redesigned and features a drag reduction system. This system also includes a front splitter, which can be extended further, allowing for speeds in excess of 196 mph in combination with higher downforce.

The car also has features in areas unrelated to performance. For example, the livery is inspired by the design of the W194 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing racing car, Mercedes-Benz's first fixed-roof racing car from 1952. The interior, meanwhile, was inspired by the 1955 Mercedes-Benz SLR 300 racing car, with blue checkered fabric seat upholstery, brown leather headrest upholstery and door loops, and a custom-made steering wheel with walnut wood handles

AMGG's newest model is the AMGG.

Pricing for the AMG GT3 Edition 130Y Motorsport starts at 1.03 million euros (approximately $1,135,000).

The current AMG GT3 with a naturally aspirated engine will be discontinued, but a turbocharged successor based on the new GT coupe has already been announced. AMG's new customer racing division, Affalterbach Racing, will be in charge of its development, which is expected to be ready in time for the 2025 motorsports season.
