Alpine A390 Beta to Debut at the 2024 Paris Motor Show

French performance maker Alpine has unveiled the first electric compact crossover that will join its lineup in 2025.

It will be called the A390, or Beta as Alpine calls it, and a thin velvet concept version will debut at the 2024 Paris Motor Show. The Paris Motor Show will open to the media on October 14.

A teaser showing the side profile of the A390 Beta was released on Friday, suggesting a low-slung, fastback design for the crossover.

Alpine has confirmed that production will begin in 2025 at its plant in Dieppe, France. The plant manufactures the only vehicle Alpine currently sells, the gas-powered A110 sports car.

The A390 is expected to be designed around the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance's platform for EVs, specifically the CMF-EV platform used in the Renault Megane E-Tech and Nissan Ariya. Renault is the parent company of Alpine.

Alpine also plans to launch the A290 electric compact hatch in early 2025; the A290 uses a cheaper version of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance's CMF-B EV platform, which Renault calls the AmpR Small platform.

Last year, Alpine teased a seven-model lineup and confirmed plans to enter the U.S. market in 2027. Other models include an electric successor to the A110 and a four-door sedan or hatch called the A310.

Alpine's newest car names all include an A for Alpine, followed by a three-digit number: the first digit indicates the size and positioning of the vehicle, while the remaining two digits indicate whether it is a sporty model or a more practical lifestyle model. Sporty models use a 10, as in the current A110 sports car, while lifestyle models use a 90, as in the A290 hatch and the upcoming A390 crossover.
