Volvo EX60 with next-generation EV platform reportedly coming in 2026.

Volvo is developing five electric vehicles, one of which will be a battery-powered alternative to the hot-selling XC60.

The vehicle will be called EX60, reflecting the strategy of replacing the XC90 and its EX90 electric car, and we will see it arrive in 2026, Autocar reported Thursday.

The EX60 will be the first vehicle to use the next-generation EV platform, which Volvo announced Thursday as SPA3.

Volvo's current EV platform is the SPA2, which debuted with the EX90. The original SPA platform debuted 10 years ago in the current XC90 and is designed for gas and plug-in hybrid powertrains.

The SPA3 platform uses the same software system and electrical architecture as the SPA2 platform, what Volvo calls the Volvo Cars SuperSet technology stack. what makes SPA3 different is its scalability to accommodate subcompacts to full-size vehicles Volvo states that this is an improvement.

The SPA3 platform will also introduce megacasting, a production process that replaces multiple body structure components with a single component. Megacasting reduces weight and streamlines the production process, and Volvo has announced plans to introduce this process at its Torslanda plant in Sweden in 2022. [...] [...] [...] [...] [...]
