Tesla improves Model S and Model X acceleration in Cheetah Stance mode.

Tesla's Model S and Model X models are already among the fastest accelerating cars on the planet thanks to the P100D variant and Ludicrous+ mode, and now Tesla has developed a feature to make these cars even faster.

The feature is called "Cheetah Stance," and Tesla launched it as part of a software update (v.2020.12.5).

The feature is part of the Model S and Model X's launch control system and is designed to improve traction when accelerating off the highway by lowering the front of the car using adaptive suspension, which Tesla calls Raven.

Tesla has yet to release official acceleration data using the Cheetah stance system, but experts from Drag Times have already conducted tests and published the first results: The Model S tested on the YouTube channel accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in 2.41 seconds. It whizzed through the air in 2.41 seconds. That's 0.06 seconds faster than the best time previously achieved by the channel. The quarter-mile time at 128 mph was also 10.5 seconds, about 0.2 seconds and 3 mph better.

Drag Times also notes that the peak power output under acceleration was 614 kilowatts (823 hp), up from the usual 580 kilowatts (777 hp). The YouTube channel also notes that with improved wheels and tires, times could be further improved.

The latest software update also simplifies the Model S and Model X's launch control systems. The driver only needs to put the suspension in Low mode and apply the brakes fully before pressing the accelerator pedal. The system is ready to operate when "Launch Model enabled" appears on the instrument cluster and remains active for about 15 seconds before shutting down.
