A quiet future awaits the loudest utility vehicle maker of the last generation, and GMC on Thursday acknowledged rumors that it will revive the Hummer name on its next vehicle with an electric powertrain, which will arrive next year.

The automaker teased the much-anticipated ultra-compact car by releasing four short videos promoting it at next month's Super Bowl. The numbers are eye-popping: 1,000 horsepower, 11,500 lb-ft of torque, and an amazing 0-60 mph acceleration of 3.0 seconds. Fans won't have to wait long. According to the automaker, the GMC Hummer EV will be unveiled in May.

GMC did not say much about the Hummer other than that it will be available in fall 2021 and that it will be a truck; the Hummer grille, which was teased in all four videos, largely follows the brand's signature before it was closed in 2010. Under the wide, bright grille, the GMC logo appears above the tow hook, much smaller than the "Hummer" branding on the outside.

Power and performance figures are almost unmatched among utility vehicles, highlighting the capabilities of the electric powertrain compared to traditional metrics GMC does not specify whether torque measurements were taken at the motor, axle, or wheel GMC also does not indicate whether these figures are While they did not specify whether they apply to the highest-spec Hummer EV or to all Hummer EV trucks, these figures would be unprecedented among those offered by mainstream automakers to date.

GMC omitted two numbers: range and price for Hummer EVs.

In a statement, GMC said the Hummer EV truck will be built at the Detroit Hamtramck plant. The plant will produce Cadillac EV SUVs, Cruise Automation self-driving vehicles, and the successor to the Chevrolet Bolt EV. A battery plant announced last year in Youngstown, Ohio, may supply battery packs for the Hummer EV and generate its brisk power.

The Hummer EV truck will be unveiled on May 20 and will go on sale in the fall of 2021.

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this article did not specify that the Hummer EV would be a truck.
