Australian team unveils 850-horsepower Ford Mustang

Ford just unveiled the 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500.

But the Australian company, led by retired racer Dick Johnson, has upped the ante: it has unveiled a Mustang that boasts 850 horsepower.

Johnson, co-founder of the DJR Team Penske race team, which competes in the Australian Supercar Touring Car Championship, has previously introduced several Ford specials. These were based on the locally developed Ford Falcon sedan, the last of which, the DJR 320, was unveiled in 2003; it produced 435 hp and was limited to just 14 units. It was also developed in conjunction with Herrod Performance.

Herrod Performance is an Australian tuner specializing in Ford products, and the company was again tapped by Johnson for this special Mustang project, which officially became the Ford Mustang Dick Johnson Limited Edition by Herrod Performance.

First unveiled last June, the car is based on the Mustang GT, but the stock 5.0-liter V-8 is equipped with a Whipple supercharger, enhanced internals, and a Borla exhaust to boost output to the aforementioned 850 hp mark

Also, the car is equipped with a new, more powerful, and more powerful V8.

It also has Brembo brakes borrowed from the Mustang Shelby GT350R and 20-inch wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. For additional downforce and visual appeal, a body kit and a huge carbon fiber rear wing were installed.

The cabin is equipped with Recaro seats in the front. A roll cage can also be installed, but at the expense of the rear seats.

Only 30 units will be built in the next few months, but they are all sold out. The good news for Aussie Mustang fans is that Herrod Performance offers a number of upgrades for the popular pony car, including items from Ford Performance, Roush, and Hellion Power Systems. website, one of the Hellion kits listed on its website claims to deliver over 2,000 hp, and even 850 hp seems mild by comparison.
