New Bugatti to arrive in 2020

According to the brand, 2020 is the year of Bugatti. The French (strictly German-capitalized) automaker said so in an Instagram post on Monday.

The post included an image teasing the new car. The car is under cover, with the front side of the driver's seat pulled up, but that side of the image is too dark to make out anything.

The images may depict a new Chiron variant; in 2019, the Centodieci and La Voiture Noire, a tribute to the EB110, were unveiled. Both are Chiron-based, limited edition models that will not be part of the 500 Chirons scheduled for production. While not a one-off, the Chiron Supersport 300+, based on the Chiron that broke the 300 km/h barrier, was unveiled in September. The Divo was also unveiled in 2018.

It is not out of the realm of possibility that another one-off or limited production reskinned Chiron will appear. The undercover car is wide and low, with a similar stance to the Chiron, but the front end does not appear to have the same shape as the Chiron.

Possibly a new car. Bugatti CEO Stephan Winkelmann told Motor Authority that the automaker is ready for a second model line. His vision is an all-weather, high-riding sedan. Winkelmann said it would be a 2+2 four-seater with a higher seating position to provide ground clearance.

Winkelman was quick to point out that the car will not be an SUV.

Winkelmann told Motor Authority that "the internal combustion engine is the true state-of-the-art powertrain" because of its unlimited power and incredible acceleration, but his vision for this upcoming Bugatti high-riding sedan model calls for an all-electric powertrain

This image depicts that second Bugatti model, which could be unveiled in Geneva, Switzerland in March or in Pebble Beach, California during Monterey Car Week in August.

More information will be forthcoming as this story develops.
