Cadillac V-LMDh racing car livery revealed

Cadillac on Thursday unveiled the final livery for its V-LMDh racing car ahead of its debut at the Rolex 24 At Daytona on January 28-29.

The V-LMDh is Cadillac's entry in the new top endurance classes of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), of which the Rolex 24 At Daytona is a part, in the GTP and Hypercar classes respectively. They will compete in the GTP and Hypercar classes, respectively.

Cadillac will field three cars, each with a V-Series logo livery: 01 will be gold, No. 02 will be blue, and No. 31 will be red; Cars 01 and 31 will be entered in the IMSA series by the Whelen Engineering team, while No. 02 will compete in the WEC. 02 will will compete in the WEC, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The team had previously finalized a driver lineup for the 01 car that included Sebastien Bourdais and Renger van der Zande; the 01 will be driven by Sebastien Bourdais and Renger van der Zande, who will compete in the 24 Hours of Daytona enduro this year alongside six-time IndyCar champion and four-time Rolex 24 winner Scott Dixon will be joined by Pipo Del Zande in the #31 car, which will be driven by Pipo Delani and Alexander Sims, with Jack Aitken in some races.

Cadillac is looking to continue its winning ways in IMSA. Under the old DPi-V.R. rules, Cadillac won titles in 2017, 2018, and 2021. It also won four consecutive Rolex 24 Hours from 2017 to 2020.

In the WEC, Earl Bamber, Alex Lynn, and Richard Westbrook will drive the No. 02 V-LMDh. The number is a tribute to "Le Monstre," a modified Cadillac Series 61 that competed in Le Mans in 1950. Cadillac failed to return in the early 2000s and has not competed in Le Mans to date.

Cadillac's return to Le Mans was made possible when IMSA and the FIA allowed overlapping rules for the GTP and Hypercar classes; the IMSA-specification car was initially called the LMDh (Le Mans Daytona Hybrid), which was carried over into the V-LMDh name, but but the class was later renamed GTP as a tribute to IMSA's top class in the glory days of the 1980s, with iconic cars like the Porsche 962.

First announced in 2022 in the form of the Project GTP hypercar, the V-LMDh will use a Dallara chassis and a hybrid powertrain with a dual overhead cam 5.5-liter V-8 for the internal combustion components. the LMDh rules state the combined output of the gasoline engine and electric assist is limited to 670 hp.

The V-LMDh will make its competition debut at the Rolex 24 Hours, followed by the FIA WEC Sebring 1000 Mile on March 17 and the IMSA Sebring 12 Hours on March 18 before heading to Le Mans in June.
