Genesis is reportedly planning a flagship EV

When Genesis was first established as an independent brand in 2015, it announced plans for a lineup of six models, including a coupe.

Since then, Genesis has focused on expanding its lineup with more voluminous models like SUVs, but soon we may finally see a niche model like a coupe or convertible, or both.

In an interview with Automotive News (subscription required) published last week, Peter Lanzavecchia, president of the Genesis National Dealer Advisory Council and owner of a Genesis dealership in New Jersey, Genesis Chief Creative Officer Luc Donckerwolke confirmed plans for a production version of the X Convertible Concept at the annual dealer meeting held around the same time as the concept reveal last fall.

"The fact that he said it at the dealer meeting, in front of several hundred Genesis dealers, is a pretty good sign," Lanzavecchia said.

Lanzavecchia also told Automotive News that the coupe was high on dealers' wish lists.

The X convertible was part of a trio of Genesis X-badge concepts. The others are the original X Coupe Concept for 2021 and the evolved X Speedium Coupe Concept for 2022; all three are EVs, but the X Speedium and X Convertible feature a common front design that is expected to be featured on Genesis' future production EVs This common design is expected to be featured on future Genesis production EVs. This common design features an enclosed front end with a light bar in the shape of the crest grille used on Genesis' current gas engine lineup.

Donckerwolke said at the time of the X Convertible reveal that all three X concepts were developed to refine the design formula for Genesis' future EVs and to see if there could also be a business case for a low-volume production flagship GT He stated.
