Hard to believe, but it's been 22 years since the original "Wild Speed" was released.

At least two more films are on the way, the tenth and eleventh by my count, and the first trailer for the tenth film, "Wild Speed X," was released on Friday. The film's release date is currently slated for May 19, 2023.

Filming began in early 2022, but original director Justin Lin, who worked on the third through sixth films in the franchise and then returned for the ninth film after a break, quit after a month despite having written the bulk of the script, 2005's "The Transporter 2" and 2010's "Clash of the Titans," Louis Leterrier took over as director.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson also decided to quit the franchise after the ninth film, despite attempts by franchise stalwart Vin Diesel to bring him back. He was replaced by Jason Momoa, who plays the new villain Dante, and Brie Larson, who plays a new ally of Diesel's character, Dominic Toretto. In addition to Diesel, the previously confirmed Charlize Theron, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Sung Kang, Nathalie Emmanuel, Ludacris, and now John Cena and Jason Statham will also return.

The trailer shows Dante coming after Toretto and his family for revenge. He turns out to be the son of Hernan Reyes, the Brazilian drug lord killed in the fifth film. Dante has teamed up with Cypher, played by Theron, while Jacob, played by Cena, and Deckard Shaw, played by Statham, seem to be returning to help Toretto.

Of course, there will be plenty of cars, and Toretto's Dodge Charger will be back.

Not much else is known about the plot details, but the film and the planned 11th installment are expected to share a comprehensive storyline that will conclude the main storyline of the franchise. Diesel said in a 2021 interview that the main storyline will end with the 11th film, scheduled for release in 2024. However, there is still room for spin-offs like 2019's Hobbs and Shaw.
