Gold Rush Rally founder charged with DUI after colliding with a modified Porsche Carrera GT

A serious accident involving Benjamin Chen, founder of Gold Rush Rally, occurred on the streets of New York City early Tuesday morning.

Cheng lost control of the Gemballa Tune Porsche Carrera GT he was driving in the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood of Manhattan and crashed into a van. Cheng then continued driving, further wrecking the vehicle, and was eventually stopped by police.

Video of the crash was later posted on social media.

On Tuesday, the New York Post reported that police charged the 33-year-old driver with reckless driving and driving under the influence of drugs.

The Carrera GT that Cheng was driving was one of 25 cars tuned by Gemballa and was originally painted gray. Known as the Gemballa Mirage GT, it was purchased by Cheng in 2014 and repainted blue in honor of his late father. Chen told duPont Registry in a 2014 interview published in 2014 that the blue color was the same color as the previous 911 he and his father bought together.

As mentioned above, Chen is the founder of the Gold Rush Rally, an annual event where car enthusiasts drive and party across several states for a week; Chen drove his car at the 2014 event. Bugatti Veyron Super Sport and successfully drove it on public roads at 246.4 mph. This high-speed run took place at the Sun Valley Road Rally near Ketchum, Idaho.
