The second-generation Rolls-Royce Ghost is on its way.

A prototype of an updated version of Rolls-Royce's entry-level sedan has been spotted and is due in late 2020 or early next year; the model is due out in 2021 and will be the first Rolls-Royce Ghost produced in the UK.

The prototype shows that the British automaker intends to change the look of the new Ghost, much like it redesigned its flagship Phantom in 2018.

The body has been given an extra curve, especially at the top of the front fenders. It also appears wider and lower than the current Ghost, giving the new car an imposing look. The overall length remains the same as the current model, with an overall length of about 212 inches and a wheelbase of 130 inches. A model with a longer wheelbase, lengthened by another 6.0 inches, is also being tested.

The exterior remains the same, but underneath is a new platform. This is an aluminum space frame developed exclusively for Rolls-Royce and still used in the Phantom and Cullinan models. In addition to the Ghost, updated versions of the Wraith and Dawn two-doors should appear on this platform.

The same 6.75-liter V12 twin-turbo as on the Phantom and Cullinan should be used as a powerplant, developing 563 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque, the latter at a low 1700 rpm; mated to an eight-speed automatic and driving the rear wheels, the V 12-cylinder engine propels the Ghost to 60 mph in less than 5.0 seconds, with a top speed of 155 mph.

There is no doubt that the suspension has excellent performance to keep passengers comfortable on the most challenging roads. The car will be equipped with a self-levelling air suspension and an advanced chassis control system to control roll and suspension stiffness.

Of course, the interior will offer the ultimate in luxury. However, it will also be equipped with high-tech equipment. It should include features such as a surround-view camera system, night vision system, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, lane crossing warning, lane departure warning, Wi-Fi hotspot, and head-up display.
