2021 Porsche 911 Turbo, spy shot of the "duck tail" spoiler.

This week, Porsche unveiled the new 911 Turbo S, based on the iconic 992-generation sports car.

The car is wider than before and gets a new "six" with 640 hp.

The latest spy shots show one of the prototypes of the car, but if you look closely, you can see that it differs from the previous model with a pronounced "duck tail" spoiler. This spoiler even has reflectors that the regular Turbo S spoiler does not have.

The first Porsche car to receive this distinctive design was the legendary Carrera RS 2.7 in 1973, and we haven't seen Porsche use it since the 911 Sport Classic in 2010.

The Sport Classic was a limited edition model introduced at the end of the 997th generation 911, but the development of a duck-tailed 911 so early in the 992 generation makes us wonder if Porsche is planning new variants or even new models for the latest Turbo family. . Turbo RS, perhaps?

With the exception of the spoiler, the prototype looks identical to previous testers of the new Turbo. It has a wider body than the current Carrera model and new air intakes on both the rear fenders and rear fascia. Brake rotors also filled the center-locked wheels: 20-inch wheels in front and 21-inch wheels in the rear.

The new turbo models are powered by a new 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat-six mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and an all-wheel drive system. Maximum output of the turbo engine, which has not yet been disclosed, will be around 600 hp, while the Turbo S will produce 640 hp.

The new Turbo models will arrive at dealers later this year in coupe and convertible body styles. If Porsche is planning a Turbo RS or Sport Classic with a "duck tail," they will not appear until after the launch of the regular Turbo models.

Stay tuned for updates as they are developed.
