Bugatti Chiron Pure Sport adapts the Divo for on-road driving.

The Bugatti Chiron comes in various modifications for different purposes. The latest model is the Chiron Pure Sport, a car not only fast but also capable of cornering.

Announced online Tuesday rather than at the canceled Geneva International Motor Show, the Chiron Pure Sport is the brand's second attempt at a hypercar for handling. The $5.8 million Divo will be unveiled in 2018, with 40 to be delivered this year.

Bugatti sees the Chiron Pure Sport as a spiritual successor to cars such as the Type 13 and Type 35, which won track races and hill climbs at the turn of the last century. It is limited to 60 cars and cost $3.35 million at current exchange rates.

Bugatti endowed the Chiron Pure Sport with improved aerodynamics at all speeds, less weight, and a sportier suspension. Bugatti also reduced weight by 110 pounds compared to the standard Chiron.

Design changes improved aerodynamics and gave the car a sportier look. At the front, wide air intakes and a large horseshoe-shaped grille direct air into the radiator. A new front splitter, larger rear diffuser and 6.2-foot-wide spoiler improve downforce, and the fixed rear wing is 22 pounds lighter than the Chiron's retractable wing. Other design cues include a 3D-printed titanium exhaust and two-tone carbon fiber trim on the lower third of the body.

Newly designed wheel rims improve aerodynamics and reduce weight. The magnesium wheels are 35 kg lighter than the production wheels and feature a ring of aerodynamic blades to reduce turbulence. They are even equipped with attachment nut covers to reduce turbulence.

The wheels are fitted with Michelin Sport Cup 2 R tires specifically designed for the Bugatti - 285/30R20 at the front and 355/25R21 at the rear. According to Bugatti officials, the tire design has been modified with a stickier rubber compound, improving the tires' ability to withstand lateral acceleration by 10%.

The suspension has been upgraded, with 65% stiffer front springs and 33% stiffer rear springs, new adaptive dampers tuned to improve performance, and camber is now -2.5 degrees greater. Carbon fiber stabilizers front and rear help reduce body roll. Bugatti claims the chassis, suspension and body mating has been strengthened by 130% at the front and 77% at the rear, but the ride quality is comparable to the base Shillong model.

Pur Sport also adds a Sport+ driving mode to the standard EB, Motorway, Handling and Sport modes. It allows the vehicle to slide more before the stability control system intervenes.

Bugatti does not say how much the increased downforce will reduce the car's top speed; to make the most of the 1,480 hp, Bugatti modified the seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, bringing the ratios closer together by 15%. The engine's red line has also been raised by 200 rpm to 6,900 rpm. These changes made acceleration from 37 to 75 mph two seconds faster than the Shiron, and full power is reached at 217 mph.

The interior is minimalist in style. Alcantara replaces leather on large surfaces to reduce weight, contrasting colored fabric is inserted into the door panels, the alcantara is laser-etched, and all trim is black anodized aluminum or titanium.

The Bugatti Chiron Pure Sport will go into production later this year, after Bugatti receives the first 40 Divo. If you are interested in this, you won't have to wait too long. Bugatti has currently produced less than 100 examples of the Chiron.
